Safety, style and compliance every step of the way
According to UK Building Regulations Approved Document K, dwellings may have open risers if you overlap treads by a minimum of 16mm.
In addition, steps should be constructed so that a 100mm diameter sphere cannot pass through the open risers. This is to ensure the safety of users, particularly that of young and vulnerable individuals.
